Wolf Mountain & Chinigushi Lake
RIDE NAME: Kukagami Rd to Chiniguchi Lodge Date: Oct 18 / 2009 Number of participants:
11 (10 ATV) Area: Lake Wahnapitae area Total distance:
123 km Time moving: 4.5 hr Rating: 8/10 Ride Log:-
We drove to Kukagami Lake Rd off Hwy 17 and proceeded north on that road for 11 km to the abandoned
rail bed to park our vehicles. We then drove
north on our bikes, turned left at the Kukagami L turnoff and then north again, passing close to Lake Wahnapitae at Boland’s
Bay where we saw many permanent cottages on a
very good road. Some 20 km later, we reached a major fork
in the road where we saw a huge sign for the snowmobile club. We turned left at that point to climb up Wolf Mountain where we
had a spectacular view of Wolf Lake and the surrounding area from our vantage point at 1600 ft altitude!(see photo). One of our members, JM the baker and his
wife the bakerette offered us some of their famous butter tarts to complement our first stab at lunch. After about an hour lunch,we came back down the mountain to the
fork, and proceeded north past Wolf L, part of the Chiniguchi R, past the southern end of Laura L, past Bragg L to another major fork in the road (heading west to Chiniguchi L or east to Lower Goose Falls and
eventually Hwy 805)We turned left at this fork
and headed to Chiniguchi Lake Lodge (Peloquin) where we had our second lunch , again with butter tarts
for dessert : thanks
Jean-Marc & Carleen!!(see photo)-
Note that there are 2 side trips you can take at this point if you have the time: one west to
Paradise L and then north from there to Frederick
L, and the other north& then east to Pilgrim Creek where swift current has knocked out the bridge which was the connecting
link to Bull & Seagram lakes ( Yorston area).
We then came back on our tracks, stopping at 2 beautiful creeks
near Wolf Lake, one from Laundry L to Wolf L and the
other from Dewdney L to Wolf L. We baptized them JM#1 and JM#2 in honor of our baker who found them to be crystal clear and
probably good trout habitats. After about another
half hour, we were back at our vehicles at 5 pm, after an enjoyable ride on a perfect autumn day, with all kinds of ideas
on future treks in the area.
